> A Wandering
Bridge - Two
brothers - Siamak and Siavash - travel to the United
States, a year apart from one another (Siamak first,
and then Siavash). The documentary begins when Siavash
arrives in the US and contrasts their respective
experiences of this country, their memories of Iran,
and also examines public perceptions of Iran.

Introduction
wmv
- In
this clip, I introduce the major characters in the
film while interweaving footage of the streets of
Tehran with footage shot in the streets of DC and
Maryland. The song is Manteca
(Dizzy Gillespie)
- The Funky Lowlives Remix. |

Mazandaran
wmv
-
In this piece, I am trying to establish a sense of
where the two brothers are from, and offering some
initial insight into their respective personalities.
The footage was shot in Mazandaran,
and the song is Moby's
"18." |

Arrival
in the US wmv
- In
this clip, I begin by introducing the two brothers'
Persian-American cousin, who picks up Siavash at the
airport. We were actually pulled over by a cop while
we were shooting this piece, which isn't really surprising
when you think about the fact that we were five middle-easterners
wandering around the airport with videocameras. Thankfully,
we had called ahead and received permission from the
airport, so we didn't go to jail. |

The
Metro wmv
- Coming
from Iran, I wondered what Siavash must think of riding
on the Subway. Or maybe this is just a product of
my fascination with public transportation and the
"human factory" ambience of the DC subway.
The footage is all shot in the DC subway and the track
is from Dieselboy's
projectHuman. |

The
Mall wmv
- Shortly after arriving in DC, Hooman took Siavash
on the obligatory tour of the mall, where theyl pondered
the phallic shape of the Washington Monument.

The
Protest wmv
- Several months before Siavash
arrived in DC, a protest was held in support of the
"Iran Democracy Act," a crap piece of legislation
introduced by good ol' Senator
Brownback. |

Interviews
on the Mall wmv
-
This clip contains a number of interviews with a number
of tourists, down on the mall. It beckons the question,
"Does anyone in the world know anything about
Iran?"

The
Last Supper wmv
-
This clip describes Siamak's last dinner in Iran, before
he headed to the United States. The footage was shot
in a Tehran restaurant, and the music is Love Song
to a Ballerina from George Winston's Forest. |

The
Soccer Game wmv
- I shot this clip in the fall of 2004, at one of Siamak's
soccer games where he wasn't playing. I sped up the
video throughout a majority of the clip and used a lot
of freeze frames and cross fades, to try and convey
a sense of the rhythmical contours of the sport. The
music was produced by George Strompolos of Present
Tense Presents. |
