Hi Jiyan, I like your site. You have made a valuable contribution to the
Internet. We all appreciate you going to such lengths to make a fine
collection of videos.

hey guy, i think that your site is one of the most influential sites
that there is. i was in Korea (yongsan, next to iteawon) for a
year and a half during my last months in the military. you showed all
the fucked up things and the beautiful thing that Korea has to offer.
i feel in love over there with a Korean model (she was half British),
but there are very positive things that are in Asia, but most are
covered up by the dictoral thumb of Asian culture. i just want
to give you a thumbs up on what you are doing, and that
documentary on that Thai woman is one of the most inspirational
pieces that i have seen in a long time. please e-mail me back.
oh yeah, my brother lives in Arlington, VA, close to DC so i know
what you are trying to accomplish. take care.

Hi Jiyan,

I've been toying with the idea of doing english teaching in korea and
your pages are bloody brilliant.

I've been laughing my ass off at some of your writing for the last
hour. The conversation with the korean girl who couldn't speak english is
hilarious. ditto the 'robots are unhealthy to eat' thing.

Thanks for taking the time to write it all down - you made my day.

Graeme. (some random stranger on the net, from Scotland :) )

hi. i was just doing some research for my chinese literature paper when
i decided to check for korean women and for some reason, your site came
up high on the list. so i checked out your site and viewed the videos. i
must say, i haven't laughed so hard in a while. and than i read your notes
(didn't read all the journals) which further elicited more laughs as i
totally recall my experiences in south korea (i studied there in 2003).
talk about culture shock!

Hey Jiyan,

I remember watching "Miguk" before coming to Korea, and it was a great
inspiration. I have lived here for eight months now and am planning to
stay longer. I had recently watched the film again with the perspective
of someone who has been here a few months, and I appreciate it even
more. I finally got my hands on a DV cam now and have been shooting
stuff I had been wanting to shoot for a while before it seems old hat.

Anyway, do you still keep in touch with the people in the film?
Are some of them still in Seoul?

Jiyan - I am preparing to leave in a month to teach in Seoul. Your site was
invaluable to me. It really helped to get an understanding of the overall vibe
that the place brings. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I particularly loved
the story about Jinie. I hope to find many Jinies there. Good looks.

Peace, Mike

Reading your journal entries on London, I can say I know exactly what you
mean. The awe,the sense of familarity, and the absolute wonderment of
things being so different that it's as if you're looking through a child's
eyes, innocent eyes. Everything making you smile and bringing back
memories that will never be forgotten. A place that begins to make you
wonder exactly what else is out there. I hope to be back again one day
myself to once again feel the wonder of it all.

hey - watched/listened to your new piece on Mazandaran.
You know what, I just love the way you mix the music,
explanation and video clips. There is something 'catchy'
in your story telling!! Good - keep it up.

Hey, great site man. I stumbled here from someplace I can't
remember (maybe it was the eslforum) and watched your first
korean visual diary. Pity I didn't bookmark it and any attempts
on google to search for this video file were fruitless. Lucky
that Shawn (korelife) told me of your stie and I was able to
finish off the documentary. I really appreciate you taking your
time to ducment your time in Seoul. Makes a lot of difference
than jsut reading about people's experiences.
