San Diego, USA
Growing
up, I had always heard about the laid back ambience of the west
coast and had always envisioned it as a place where I could go
and enjoy a relaxed pace of life that was far more suited to me
than the intensity and stress of the east coast. After I returned
to the States in the summer of 2001, I decided that the time had
finally come for me to see what it was like.
What
I found out was that the west coast was laid back and I was not.
A mindless blur of hippies, surfers, potheads, and Californian
republicans made me run back to the east coast after a year and
a half.
That
being said, San Diego is actually a pretty cool place and when
I'm slogging around in the rain and mud, I have nostalgic thoughts
of the sublime weather that is San Diego's single most endearing
feature.
Much
of the writing in this section is fictional and taken from accounts
I overheard from friends and people that I met along the way in
San Diego. Some of it is not. What is real and what is imaginary,
I'll let you decide for yourself.
The
videos were all shot near my apartment in Balboa Park and I think
they are a fairly accurate representation of my general outlook
on the place.
I
invite you to explore my writing and video from San Diego and
taste a little of what I experienced while I was there.
